What’s the Word on an iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Coming in 2017?

jailbreak update

With iOS 10.3 about to drop as a beta version on January 10, 2017, the window for an iOS 10.2 jailbreak is getting smaller by the day. But still, there’s no sign of an iOS 10.2 jailbreak on the horizon. Hacker Stefan Esser indicated a few days ago that one would be forthcoming, but all has been silent on that front ever since.

So, what’s the actual possibility of an iOS 10.2 jailbreak or an iOS 10.2.1 jailbreak coming before iOS 10.3 hits on January 10? Truth be told, it doesn’t look good.

But let’s go through the events of the past few weeks to reconstruct what happened.

There was much enthusiasm when hacker Luca Todesco and others first showcased their iOS 10 jailbreaks on video, but after that there was a long gap. Eventually, word got out that Pangu was working on its own version of an iOS 10 jailbreak but it was waiting for a stable iOS 10.2 to drop. Well, that came and went, and there was still no sign of a Pangu jailbreak for iOS 10.x.

Then, finally, after Ian Beer exposed an exploit for iOS 10.1.1, Luca Todesco piggy-backed his way to a beta jailbreak – the Yalu iOS 10 – iOS 10.1.1 jailbreak. After that, Esser’s tweet made its way into reports about an iOS 10.2 jailbreak “coming soon”, but until now there’s nothing on that front either.

iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Will Hit Soon, Says Security Expert and Hacker Stefan Esser

As it stands, it’s likely that Todesco may roll out a stable version of his jailbreak for iOS 10.1.1, but he’s made it amply clear that Apple closed a lot of security doors with iOS 10.2.

Will there ever be a jailbreak for iOS 10.2? We’re not certain, but since we haven’t heard anything from the Pangu team, Todesco or anyone else other than Esser, that’s all we have to go on.

And, now, with iOS 10.3 about to start seeding to developers, we’ll know what security layers, if any, Apple has applied on top of whatever iOS 10.2 brought in.

If we know something for sure, it’s the fact that Apple is aggressively shutting down exploit opportunities for jailbreakers. Of course, being a cops and robbers scenario, jailbreakers aren’t going to cry Mommy and run back home.

The battle has just begun, and all eyes are on the big prize now – a jailbreak for iOS 10.2 or iOS 10.2.1.

For now, what we recommend is for you to save all possible shsh2 blobs (APTickets) for iOS 10.2 and iOS 10.2.1, and any other version Apple drops over the next few weeks – even the iOS 3 beta 1 that’s supposedly being seeded to developers on January 10. You can so that easily using the TSS Saver tool from 1Conan, which uses tihmstar’s tsschecker in the back. We’ve explained the process in this article linked below:

Prometheus for iOS 10.1.1 Jailbreak, Save Your .SHSH2 Blobs in 3 Simple Steps

At the very least, when an iOS 10.2.x jailbreak does come, you’ll be ready to downgrade/upgrade to the relevant iOS version using the Prometheus tool from tihmstar. A lot of jailbreak fans missed out on the iOS 10.1.1 jailbreak because they didn’t save their blobs for the version and Apple stopped signing it within 24 hours of the jailbreak becoming public. Don’t miss out this time. Save your blobs for later.
