iOS 10.2.1 Beta 4 (14D27) Hasn’t Fixed TV App Bug, When is iOS 10.3 Beta 1 Coming?

iOS 10.2.1 beta 4 - no tv app fix

Apple has just dropped iOS 10.2.1 beta 4 a few hours ago, but it looks like a very minute increment possibly with some key bug fixes. The fact that beta 4 dropped so quickly after beta 3 of iOS 10.2.1 was released (earlier this week) could mean one of two things – either there was a major vulnerability they wanted to fix quickly or they’re ready to unveil iOS 10.3

So far, we only know that iOS 10.3 is going to be bringing a Theater Mode to the Control Center, but the first beta for that should only drop after Apple releases iOS 10.2.1 to the public – or possibly the same day.

As for the current beta 4 of iOS 10.2.1, it doesn’t seem to have fixed a major issue with the TV app. Users are still seeing the Video app settings even though the label says TV. Here’s a comment from a user on 9to5Mac:

They need to fix the settings for the TV app. I am still presented with the Video app settings on my iPhone and iPad. even though it’s labeled as TV. With the TV app setting you are supposed to be able to turn off and delete information from specific media apps. This works for me on Apple TV.”
Based on comments from other forums, it seems that the battery life problem still remains for several users. One commenter notes
“The Genius Bars are backed up with iPhone battery issues from 10.2. And they have no idea how to fix them.”
Depending on the kind of feedback Apple is receiving from users, there may well be a need for a beta 5 for iOS 10.2.1 before it’s pushed to the public. That means iOS 10.3 gets delayed as well.
Assuming things go according to plan, the latest we should see iOS 10.3 dropping in beta should be sometime next week. That’s as close a guess as we’re willing to hazard at this point. Unfortunately, with so many unresolved bugs, it’s anyone’s guess how many more betas are in store for iOS 10.2.1
