These New Pokemon Go Secrets are Lurking within the APK, UNOWNs Coming

Pokémon Go APK secrets - UNOWN

The latest Pokémon Go update brought us gendered Pikachu and Raichu, but there appear to be more secrets lurking in the shadows of the Pokémon Go APK. Silph Road data-mined some interesting information that points to some very big upcoming changes.

First up is Evolution Items. No less than five evolution items have been named within the APK for the latest update of Pokémon Go. For those unfamiliar with the term, Evolution Items are special items that help certain species of Pokémon evolve when exposed to them. The ones named in the APK are: Upgrade, Dragon Scale, Sun Stone, Metal Coat and Kings Rock. No graphic assets have been found for these, but the names indicate that they could be coming in a subsequent update.

The second thing Silph Road discovered was Gen II FORMS that apply to the Pokémon UNOWN species. This species is a hieroglyphic-type, genderless, psychic character represented by the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet, as well as a question mark and an exclamation point, as shown in the image below:

At this point it’s not clear how Niantic will bring this species to Pokémon Go, but at least we know they’re working on it.

The third big piece of information is 38 new Quick moves and Charge moves, for which the code, names and assets have been found in the update APK. Reproduced below from Silph Road’s post:

According to Silph Road, many of these are ready for deployment through a server-side change.

Other new features include a new top-level button for “News”, three new avatar customization options (Belt, Glass, Necklace), new Sponsor types, new debugging system and tweaks to Gym Radius interactions.

The known changes on v0.53.1 include the update for Apple Watch which shows Eggs obtained from PokéStops, better distance tracking to account for GPS drift and a few text changes.
