Over the past several days, we’ve been reporting whatever we could find on the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that are going to be launching in a matter of weeks. For now several of these rumors have been confirmed, while others still remain rumors and yet others have been debunked.
Here’s a run-down of what we know as of today, Aug 17, 2016.
iPhone 7 Rumor #1: No 3.5 mm Headphone Jack – CONFIRMED
A new schematic that just leaked out shows that the 3.5 mm headphone jack will indeed be missing on the new iPhone 7. Instead, the new smartphone will feature a lightning port that can digitally connect to a headset.
There have been concerns about content on iTunes being restricted because of this move from analog to digital, but sources are confident that the clarity achieved by this digital system will be superior to what analog can deliver.
iPhone 7 Rumor #2: No Stereo Speaker – CONFIRMED
Another feature that the schematic shows is the lack of a stereo speaker like the one found on the iPad Pro. Unfortunately, iPhone 7 users will have to be satisfied with a single speaker, and that’s as good as it’s going to get.
So without an analog headphone jack and no stereo speakers, the new iPhone may well have swayed the minds of more than a few Apple fans into not buying.
iPhone 7 Rumor #3: Dual Lens Camera on the iPhone 7 Plus – CONFIRMED
Both the bigger bump on the iPhone 7 and the dual lens camera on the iPhone 7 Plus seem to be part of the new phone. It’s logical because Apple has been focusing its time on delivering a much deeper photo experience for its users, and this is just part of that effort.
Unfortunately, it may take away from the suave look of earlier models – a dual lens is likely to make the iPhone 7 look unlike any other iPhone before it. But will that bother buyers? We’ll just have to wait and see.
iPhone 7 Rumor #4: Waterproof iPhone 7 – UNCONFIRMED
One of the coolest possible features of the iPhone, unfortunately, may not be seen on this model. Apple was recently granted several patents, one of which included photo editing capabilities under water. Naturally, that turned into a rumor that the iPhone 7 would be completely waterproof and suitable for underwater photography.
We don’t know yet if that’s true, but we do know that Samsung is already in there with IP68 waterproof certification on its S7, S7 Edge and Note 7 – for up to a depth of 1.5 meters. Now, that’s not great for underwater photography when diving, but scuba divers could find that useful for “just under the surface” shots.
iPhone 7 Rumor #5: Virtual Home Button – DEBUNKED
This one would have been a truly stand-out feature, but the new schematics show that there won’t be a virtual home button that gives haptic feedback (giving you a buzz or vibration to make it feel like you’re pressing something.)
This is a standard feature of most smartphone screens, and a few Samsung models even have it on their virtual navigation buttons that you can turn on or off. Again, not a truly unique feature for the iPhone if there were any plans to have such a feature on the iPhone 7.
iPhone 7 Rumor #6: Available colors – UNCONFIRMED
The Space Blue and Black colors have not been confirmed yet. We may still see the older Gold, White or Silver as color options for the iPhone 7 and its bigger cousin the iPhone 7 Plus.
As we approach the iPhone release date of September 7, even more rumors are bound to fly around. We’ll do our best to research what’s valid and what’s pure rumor and get it to you as soon as we can.
