Tesla to Make Surprise Product Announcement – Autopilot 2.0, Powerpack or Model Y?

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk usually hints at new and exciting announcements from his company on his Twitter account. This time was no different, with Musk Tweeting this a few hours ago:

“Tesla product unveiling on the 17th (unexpected by most), followed by Tesla/SolarCity on the 28th.”

We already know about the 28th event, but it looks like they’ve got something up their sleeve for the 17th of October as well. As usual, speculation is running riot among Tesla followers.

Some say it’s the new hardware for Autopilot 2.0, which will be able to read traffic lights and stop signs, allowing for non-highway autonomous driving. Others say it’s the Powerwall or Powerpack, power storage options for the home. Yet others speculate on the possibility of a Model Y. The last is unlikely because Tesla is currently struggling to handle the 400,000 Model 3 pre-orders it has piled up.

But knowing Musk’s passion for innovation, it could be something totally off the map – like a 500-mile range battery or something of that nature. What we are confident about is that Musk wouldn’t be Tweeting it if it wasn’t a significant milestone for one of his companies. Who knows, maybe it’s a big announcement that Mars bookings are open!

We’ll be keeping tabs on Musk’s Tweets as well as any reliable information about the announcement on the 17th but, for now at least, your guess is as good as ours.
