Free Windows 10 Upgrade Still Open for Some – Find Out How to Get It

Free Windows 10 upgrade still open for some

It seems like Microsoft has left the door open for those who want a free Windows 10 upgrade. As of today, October 28, 2016, Windows 10 is still available for people who use assistive technologies. Here’s how to get your free upgrade to Windows 10, as well as some very cool stuff that Microsoft launched at their big Windows 10 event on October 26.

When Windows 10 was launched last year, many analysts found that adoption rates were very high – unusually high for a Windows OS, in fact. In the first month, it had the highest early adoption rate among the most recent versions of Windows – Win 7 and Win 8.

But after that, usage has been fluctuating, as you can see from the graph below that tracked Windows 10 usage from launch until the deadline for the free Windows 10 upgrade.

StatCounter data may not be 100% accurate, but it seems like Windows 10 isn’t doing as well as Microsoft hoped it would. But it’s still early days yet. New devices will all ship with Windows 10, of course, and over a period of time nearly everyone will have to move to the new OS. And when the Windows 10 Creators Update comes around next spring, you won’t be able to resist downloading and installing it on your device.

But you have to be on Windows 10 first, and that’s where this article is going to be useful. As of today, you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade from Win 7 or Win 8/8.1 if you use assistive technologies. But Microsoft might not check whether you actually use these technologies, such as speech-to-text and so on.

As long as you have a licensed earlier version, you can get the free Windows 10 upgrade for your device.

All you need to do is head over to the Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade page linked below and then click on Upgrade Now, and it’ll take you through the process.

There’s more great stuff for you to see. First of all, the new Surface Studio all-in-one desktop PC – a first from Microsoft. And then the most stunning Surface Book you’ve ever seen. It’s a rehashed version, says Microsoft, but from the specs it looks like they’ve beefed it up a bit – 30% more battery, faster processing and a second fan for cooling. Overall, quite an impressive laptop. And, of course, it comes with a touchscreen unlike the new MacBook Pro 2016 that was unveiled yesterday.
