OnePlus 3 Getting Android Nougat 7.0 Nougat Beta in November

Android 7.0 Nougat beta version coming to OnePlus 3 in November, 2016

OnePlus 3 has been praised as one of the best smartphones released in 2016, and it looks like the phone will get the beta version of Google’s new Android 7.0 Nougat later this month.

Since its launch in June this year, the OnePlus 3 has seen strong demand. In fact, the Chinese brand has done exceedingly well since it was introduced in 2014.

In its first year of operation the first model – OnePlus One, often abbreviated to OPO – sold an estimated 950,000 units. Not bad for a company that only launched in December 2013.

The image above shows their sales distribution during 2014. As you can see, East Asia and Europe were its two biggest markets, with North America coming in third. Today, India is the smartphone maker’s biggest market, with nearly a million phones sold in India alone through 2015.

The company did run into some legal troubles in December of 2014, and was banned from being imported into India after local smartphone maker Micromax sued them for violating exclusivity on the CyanogenOS, a custom version of Android. The ban was lifted after a week, but they later released phones with the OxygenOS so they could continue selling future models in the Indian subcontinent.

The OnePlus 3 comes with Dash Charge, a fast-charging technology that uses the Type-C port. The company claims that it is faster, safer and cooler than any similar technology available today.

The metal unibody is carved from a single block of aluminium, and the phone comes with a 16MP camera with options like shutter speed control, auto-focus and dynamic de-noising. But the best parts are under the hood. The OnePlus 3 comes with the Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 processor and LPDDR4 RAM of 6GB. Add to that the Adreno 530 GPU and what you have is a super-fast, seamless experience regardless of whether you’re into gaming, high-intensity apps or a ton of video content.

The current operating system is the OxygenOS, which is a custom version of Android Marshmallow that is supposed to be bloat-free. This month, OnePlus is releasing the 3 with Android Nougat 7.0 in beta mode, which should bring in a slew of new features as well as carry-overs from the best of Marshmallow.

The Android Nougat 7.1 with VR capability should be coming soon, but it’s initially going to be only for Google’s phones – the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, the Pixel C tablet and several models of Nexus as well as certain Android One phones.

OnePlus 3 won’t have the Nougat 7.1, but the Nougat 7.0 beta should have most of the polished functionality that evolved from Marshmallow. We’ll be reporting it as soon as we know the exact dates for when the OnePlus 3 will get the Android 7.0 beta update.
