As a tech-focused site, we at 1redDrop.com are always excited when reporting new technologies and gadgets on the market. This particular one is currently being crowdfunded on Indiegogo and has already achieved 259% of its original funding requirement of $20,000.
ChargEST claims to be the world’s smallest and most advanced universal power adapter. The design elements are fairly simple but highly functional, and the adapter works with nearly every pin and plug standard in the world. One adapter is all you need for any one of 150 countries including the United States, the UK, Australia and all of Europe.
Two devices have been introduced by the company that calls itself Team Forwrd, from Sofia, Bulgaria. The first is the adapter itself, the other being a 6300 mAh power bank.
The adapter-and-phone-charger-in-one has two height-adjustable (retractable) MicroUSB pins so you can charge an Android phone and an iPhone at the same time. It also has three fast-charging USB ports and even a little open and close compartment at the back to store the removable lightning and USB-C pins that you’d use for the cableless charging option. Voltage range is 110 to 250 V.
Each MicroUSB provides a 2.1A charge, which means two phones can be charged simultaneously to full power in about an hour – useful when you’re on the move. And the cableless charging makes it convenient not to have to carry around a bunch of different cables that will inevitably get tangled up when stored together in your bag.
The main socket outlet is compatible with all globally used standards, and that’s just in case you already have a phone charger but not the right pin type for that country. The pins on the adapter are exchangeable, and stow away neatly in little compartments of their own. That means when all pins are removed and stored, the adapter becomes a compact 3.15″X3.15″X1.57″ rectangular box that fits easily into your pocket; and it weighs in at about 130g, so it’s not that heavy either considering the number of components it has.
There’s also a GoGreen button to power off the adapter when its not in use.
The unit can be preordered on Indiegogo individually, at $49 for the adapter and $39 for the power bank.
Unfortunately, the duo pack is all booked up. Shipping costs will be applied separately for each item. You can also choose one of two colors – Pearl White and Noir Black.
They also have a double adapter unit for $69, which is taller than the standard ChargEST and gives you an additional socket outlet to plug another device into. You can also purchase an extra lightning pin for $9 (must purchase adapter first.)
The unit is built to stringent standards, and has several safety features like a 100% childproof socket, overcharge protection, temperature protection, voltage variation and short circuit protection.
Mass production testing begins in February 2017. Early Bird perks are set to be delivered by April 2017, and all other backers are scheduled to receive their orders the following month.
