Hate iOS 10.2? Google Drive Makes it Easy to Switch to Android

Switch to Android from iPhone

If you’re one of several Apple users frustrated by the bugs and issues on iOS 10.2 that came out earlier this week, you’ll be happy to know that Google Drive now makes it easier than ever to switch to Android from an iPhone. Any guesses as to which Android device Google wants you to switch to?

Shortly after iOS 10.2 was officially rolled out to the public this week, reports started coming in about the shutdown bug on iPhone 6S and earlier models not having been fixed yet.

There was also a confirmation that there is now a new tracking capability that was originally meant to track down the battery problem, but is now hardwired into iOS 10.2. Basically, Apple is now tracking telemetry on all devices that have upgraded to iOS 10.2 – irrespective of whether the device had the shutdown bug or not.

The big deal is, they haven’t mentioned it in their release notes, which they should have done, so there’s no information about what it tracks, how it works and how the data is used. Not cool, Apple.

The third problem is that the issue with EarPods where the earphones were malfunctioning during calls has still not been fixed on iOS 10.2.

Now, you might consider these problems to be “normal”, but it’s not in Apple’s DNA to put out faulty software updates. And it’s definitely unlike Apple – which claims to value user privacy above all – to include a tracking software and not tell anyone about it.

If that makes you want to switch to Android, Google is ready and waiting to ease the transition for you.

First came Quick Switch, an adapter that made data transfers between iPhones and the Google Pixel a breeze. But if you’re not keen on spending money on a gadget for this purpose, Google Drive now makes it easy – and free – to do the same thing.

Originally reported by The Verge, Android’s website now has a “Switch” page that shows you exactly how to take all your iOS data and switch to Android. The feature allows you to transfer all of your photos, your entire iTunes library of movies, TV shows, music, etc., all your contacts and all your messages. What more do you need?

Simply follow the instructions provided on the Switch page and you can be done in minutes. And don’t forget – Google Pixel smartphones come with unlimited photo and video storage so you can have your entire iTunes collections on Google’s cloud servers and pay nothing for it. Ever.

Here’s an example of instructions for transferring data when you switch to Android:

“Easily transfer up to 50,000 of your songs from your iTunes library to Google Play Music for free. From there, you can access your collection on any web browser, any of your Android devices or even from your iPhone or iPad.

Transfer iTunes®
  1. Make sure that your iPhone or iPad is fully synced to iTunes on your computer. Your music should all be backed up on your computer when this is done.
  2. Install Google Play Music Manager on your computer. Music Manager will upload your iTunes music to the cloud. You can download Music Manager here.
  3. Finish setting up your Google Play account by creating a Google Wallet account*.

Tip: Enjoy your iTunes Disney, Pixar or Marvel movie on your new Android phone or tablet with Disney Movies Anywhere.

*Even though the standard version of Google Play Music is free, you’ll need to add a credit card to your new account.”
