Samsung Galaxy S8 with S Pen Support, 6-inch Screen, Other Hot Note 7 Features

Galaxy S8 with S Pen Support; Note 8, foldable Galaxy X

The Note 7 is dead. Long live Note 7. We’ve just heard that next year’s Samsung Galaxy S8 could be coming with S Pen support for the 6-inch display variant of the Galaxy S8.

The Galaxy S8 plus-sized phone is rumored to carry over a lot of features from the Note 7 which, if not for the problems it had, was a great phablet. The larger-sized Galaxy S8 was originally supposed to come with a built-in stylus, but those plans have apparently been scrapped.

The Chinese source, Weibo, which has been busy revealing a lot of “leaks” about next year’s flagship phones from Samsung, noted that the S Pen would not be included, but sold as a separate accessory. No pricing was given.

The Galaxy S8 models are expected to be unveiled during the first half of 2017, and we should be getting a more accurate release date closer to that time.

In all, Samsung is expected to release three different models next year: a Galaxy S8, a Galaxy Note 8 and possibly a foldable smartphone currently being called Galaxy X. Samsung did confirm that they’re not entirely doing away with the Note series, and foldable OLED panel technology is already in Samsung’s hands.

Of late, speculation and rumors about flagship phones from both Apple and Samsung (not to mention Google Pixel is now in the picture) seem to be getting more and more accurate. Not many features are coming to consumers as a complete surprise, such as the dual camera on iPhone 7 Plus, the doing away with the 3.5 mm jack and other key features.

As such, that lends a certain amount of credibility to the sources that revealed those bits of news. Weibo is a case in point, so we’re inclined to take what they say at face value. Since a lot of the components are made in China and Taiwan, it’s hard not to acknowledge the fact that they have insider information to feed the media.

That said, until Samsung makes it official we can’t be certain about what’s true and what isn’t. The only strong lead we have right now is the fact that they’ve likely set the wheels in motion for procurement of parts and other production stages, so whatever they’ve decided as of now is what we’ll see sometime during the first half of 2017.

It’s critical for Samsung to continue the success of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and wipe out the blot that was the Note 7, but it’s equally important for them to leverage the innovations in Note 7 and implement those in future models.

It looks like we’re in for a treat from Samsung’s smartphones division next year. And, hopefully, this time they’ll be extra careful about testing their batteries and other components thoroughly before they unleash their phones in 2017.
