Asus ZenFone AR with Google Tango Support Revealed by Qualcomm

Looks like Qualcomm beat Asus to the starting line by revealing the brand new Asus ZenFone AR with Google Tango support ahead of the CES 2017 unveiling.

As the name indicates, the Asus ZenFone AR will leverage the power of Google Tango, the search engine giant’s second foray into alternate reality. The first was, of course, Daydream, which is a virtual reality (VR) platform. The next level up is Google Tango, which brings augmented reality into reach for millions of consumers.

But this is the first time a smartphone will support both VR and AR by running Daydream as well as Google Tango applications. It is already the first smartphone in the world to support Google Tango, but with Daydream VR headset support included, it’s a double-first for the Taiwanese electronics company.

The ZenFone AR is basically your high-end Android smartphone with Snapdragon 821 processor, but not much else will be known about this unique phone until the company reveals pricing, specs and other details on Wednesday this week.

Unfortunately, Qualcomm has pulled down the page from their blog, presumably because Asus management would have hit the ceiling when they first saw it! Luckily, one user on Twitter – famous “leakster” Evan Blass, who uses the handle @evleaks managed to get a press rendering of the phone.
