Kernel Source for Android 7.0 Nougat for Moto Z and Moto Z Droid Released

Motorola releases Android 7.0 Nougat kernel source for Moto Z and Moto Z Droid

Motorola has just made it easier to develop custom ROMs for Android 7.0 Nougat on Moto Z and Moto Z Droid devices by releasing the kernel source code.

The Griffin push for Android 7.0.0 Nougat was posted to Github by Motorola Mobility LLC, and can be downloaded as a .zip or .tar.gz file.

Moto Z and Z Droid devices come with stock software, but if you’re into something more adventurous, then a custom ROM is probably what you’re looking for. There are currently a few custom ROMs that you can flash on your Moto Z device, which you can find here. Now that Motorola has made the kernel source available, we should see even more custom ROMs being developed.

One of the major challenges for Moto Z and Z Droid could have been a lack of enough mods to keep the ecosystem moving along, but fortunately Lenovo, Motorola’s parent company, pre-empted that and has committed to releasing at least 12 mods per year.
