You know Microsoft has been pushed to the wall when they release a buggy version of Windows, and the newly released Windows 10 Build 15019 is exactly such a version. Let me tell you why that’s a good thing.
First of all, this is an Insider preview build, which means “buggy” is a redundant term. There will be bugs, and there’s no skirting around the issue. However, this time, Microsoft was well aware of many of the bugs, and yet released the build as promised this week.
What are the bugs on Build 15019 and why is this significant to the Windows 10 Creators Update release?
Microsoft has warned of popular games either crashing or showing black screens when loading. Also if you click on certain parts of a Win32 game, it might minimize and not let you play until you kill the game and reload it.
Game Mode may also show that it’s in OFF mode when it’s actually running. The progress bar might not show accurate progress; in fact, it could continue to show “0% completed” even while the game is downloading.
As to why the bugginess of this version is important to the release of Windows 10 Creators Update, Microsoft’s head of the Insider Program Dona Sarkar’s statement gives us a clue:
“We recognize that this is painful for those wanting to try out the new gaming features announced this week. We deliberated a lot on whether to release this build to Insiders with these issues; however we decided to go ahead and release it as we need feedback from Insiders on other areas of the OS.”
That statement clearly implies that Microsoft is running on a very tight schedule. It also lends credence to the belief that Windows 10 Creators Update will be released in full by the end of March – either March 30 or 31, according to information from Dell regarding Dell Canvas.

Build 15019 is clearly behind schedule simply because Microsoft has been trying to do so much in such a short period of time. That’s why the builds are coming thick and fast.
Build 15019 is possibly going to be one of the last few major builds with heavy new features. If Microsoft wants to release Creators Update by March 30, 2017, they need to quickly get to the bug-fixing phase after rolling out every single new feature that will eventually appear on Creators Update.
What will likely happen now is that we’ll see more minor builds coming through as they address bug after bug and get Creators Update ready for the final release to the public. As such, there may be a few more preview builds bringing new features for Cortana, Edge, gaming and so on, but not too many.
Pretty soon, Microsoft will have to feature-lock the final version and then get rid of every bug they can in subsequent builds. If the release date information is accurate, then Microsoft has about two months to get everything right.
Windows 10 Creators Update is a big, huge deal for Microsoft because it brings in so many new elements. But it has to be ready sooner rather than later so it can drive Windows 10 adoption to the next level in 2017.
My suspicion is that Microsoft will be moving even faster now to get the final feature-bringing builds to Windows Insiders so it can then close its doors and focus on the bug-fixing builds that will be critical to the final look and polish of Windows 10 Creators Update when it hits the market.
