Android 7.0 Nougat Smartphone from Kyocera is Soap Washable [Watch Video]

Android 7.0 Nougat washable smartphone from Kyocera

Of course, one washable smartphone isn’t enough for this big, wide world, so Kyocera has taken it upon itself to create a second washable smartphone, the Kyocera rafre – and it’s got Android 7.0 Nougat!

The first soap-proof smartphone came in December 2015 as the DIGNO rafre, and it was a modest smartphone with about average specs. One thing made it stand out, though, and it was the fact that you could lather up the soap and actually wash the phone with soap and water.

That might sound like a gimmick, but the new rafre takes it a step further because you can actually use the touchscreen wet and dry. Moreover, it’s even resistant to hot water.

What’s interesting is the fact that the phone comes pre-loaded with a cooking app that uses hand gestures to operate, which means you won’t have to operate it dirty hands. Wet, yes; dirty, no. But then again, it’s washable, right?

The new Kyocera rafre comes with a 720p (HD) 5-inch TFT LCD display, a 13MP camera with proprietary image processing on the rear, a 5MP front cam, 2GB RAM and 16GB built-in memory expandable with microSD up to 200GB)

The best part, of course, is that it comes with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

The phone is currently available in Japan via KDDI, a major mobile carrier operating in the country with whom the original DIGNO was launched.

We don’t know if the U.S. will get the world’s second washable smartphone, but Kyocera already has a significant presence in North America and has ties with all the major carriers in the United States. It currently lists 33 smartphone and feature phone models on its website.

Unfortunately, the original DIGNO rafre never made it to the United States, so we’re not sure whether Kyocera has any plans along those lines for the new rafre.

Here’s a video showing the new Kyocera rafre in some hot, soapy action!
