Apple iPhone 8 Not Coming in September, 3D Camera and Fingerprint ID Delayed

iPhone 8 shipments could be delayed

A reliable source claims that Apple may have to delay the production of iPhone 8 because certain components may not be ready in time for production until September, 2017, when the phone is expected to be launched and released.

Though the launch may proceed as planned, in September, shipments could be delayed by a month or more because of two reasons: tech delays related to the 3D camera and the fingerprint ID.

A research note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the 3D camera system cannot be changed at the parts or module level “unless production of the OLED iPhone (expected to begin in September) gets pushed back,” citing lengthy review and recertification processes.

Another report, from Digitimes, also backed by Kuo’s research, shows that the new OLED iPhone won’t go into production “until September due to the redesigned fingerprint ID solution.”

If Apple delays its September launch for iPhone 8, that would be a major deviation from several years of tradition. Apple wouldn’t want that.

So, what’s more likely to happen is that Apple will go ahead with the September launch, but possibly delay shipment for the OLED model, while shipping the other two variants a little earlier.

What lends credence to this assumption is the fact that Apple is bringing several key changes to its new iPhone. The OLED, the virtual home button, the battery, the facial recognition, possibly even the charging port and several other physical as well as functional aspects and getting a complete overhaul.

To orchestrate such a massive supply chain alone is an Herculean task. So if there are delays in getting the iPhone 8 ready for shipment, it’s understandable.

Now add the fact that Apple has only been making incremental changes on the iPhone’s design for the past several years and you’ll see exactly why adherence to schedule would be a humongous task.

In short, if they pull off a September launch with a short turnaround time for shipping iPhone 8, it will be a tremendous achievement.
