A $100,000 car is expensive enough, but what would you call a car that comes with $100,000 in really cool tech accessories? You’d call it Ghost. The new Rolls-Royce Ghost “Black Badge” Edition is, according to the super-premium carmaker, “For the Fearless.”
And if you’re not afraid of plunking down a cool $416,000 for this black beauty, here’s what you get for nearly half a million dollars:
Ghost Black Badge is pulsing with technological innovation. Take, for example, the body heat sensor that can detect a person from 300 meters away (984 feet.) Or how about the intelligent air suspension, which gives you a “magic carpet ride over any surface”?
Talking about technology, just the wheels alone took no less than four years to develop. There are 22 layers of carbon fiber cloth in three different directions, then folded back over themselves to provide a jaw-dropping 44 layers of protection and strength. Those are just the rims. The hub itself is made from titanium and aluminium that’s aero-space grade.
Under the hood hums a 12-cylinder engine that provides 603 bhp and 840 Nm of torque. It’s not super-fast, but the relatively slow 155 mph is offset by a powerful acceleration from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
And what’s a Rolls without a champagne cooler, an umbrella that slides out of the door, a button on the inside that closes the door for you, the retractable hood ornament (the Spirit of Ecstasy or Flying Lady) to prevent theft and several other luxuries that can only be found in a Rolls-Royce, eh what?
The retractable hood ornament is an amazing piece of technology in itself, weighing in at about 7.3 lbs. worth of motors, sensors and plastic. It can be made to retract when you turn off the car, on impact in the event of a collision, and even when someone tries to steal it. Here’s how it works:
This isn’t the most expensive Rolls-Royce in the world, nor is it the most powerful or fastest. But anyone who sees it cannot deny that it is yet another stunning creation that is painstakingly crafted to perfection.
