A recent tip received by NokiaPowerUser shows that HMD Global and Nokia are working on a new flagship phone possibly dubbed Nokia 9. One look at the leaked specs and the Galaxy S8 suddenly looks like something you’d buy as a first smartphone for your 13-year-old.
The 5.5-inch QHD OLED display and iris scanner might not seem that impressive, but how about a massive 3,800mAh battery and 6GB of RAM? Sporting the same Snapdragon 835 processor as the Galaxy S8, the Nokia 9 is expected to come in 64GB and 128GB variants. To that, add a dollop of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4, fingerprint scanner, IP68 water and dust resistance certification and Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box, and you’re looking at a really powerful smartphone that any existing model would find hard to beat, including the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
What’s really exciting is the specs on the camera modules. On the rear will be a 22MP Carl Zeiss lens, and a 12MP selfie camera will grace the front – that’s as much as the Galaxy S8’s rear camera, which is a carryover from Galaxy S7 Edge.
Even more exciting is the Nokia OZO Audio expected to come with the Nokia 9. It’s a spatial audio technology with 3D capture and playback support for the truly immersive sound that you’ll need with VR content.

If the tip is true, then Samsung and Apple are both in trouble. Nokia is a well-known brand, and a comeback with a phone like the Nokia 9 could eat some serious market share from the current global leaders, not to mention Alphabet’s Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and Taimen.
