How to Download and Install iOS 11 Beta 2 on Supported iPhones and iPads

iOS 11 Beta 2 Download and Install

If you’re iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch owner, you can be ahead of the curve and get the newly released iOS 11 Beta 2 on your iPhone or iPad for testing purposes. The latest iteration of iOS 11 brings a slew of new and expected features, such as “Do Not Disturb While Driving.”

The Photos app, Siri and Apple Pay see some changes on this beta version of iOS 11 as well. 3D Touch also works better with various third-party apps, as well as data assets like phone numbers and addresses. Apple developers have also fixed the Android Migration issues, and iOS 11 now allows large apps over 100MB to be downloaded using cellular data. Bluetooth seems to be more reliable as well.

This particular beta is for developers, but even if you’re not one, you can get a Developer ID and eligible to get the beta on your supported devices.

How to Register for an Apple Developer Account and Download/Install iOS 11 Beta 2

  • You can purchase a developer account for $99 a year – purchase it here. Once that’s set up, you will need to register your device(s) within the account you create. Here’s some help doing that.
  • Once you’ve got your account and device set up, you will need to get the pre-release of iOS 11 – get that here – on your Mac or PC running the latest iTunes version.
  • You will also need to back up all of your data from the device.
  • That done, simply select your device from iTunes, select ‘Restore iPhone/iPad/iPod’ from the Summary pane, select the prerelease software restore image and hit ‘Open.’
  • Once the installation is over, you can restore content from the backup you took.

If you’ve done this right, you should be running the second developer beta of iOS 11.

Of course, since this is a beta version, don’t expect everything to work as it should. This is just a chance to get in on the action while new features are still being added to iOS 11, rather than having to wait for the final release later this year.

However, if you have any doubts about being able to follow the steps above, it’s better to wait. Also, don’t do this on your primary device, since there’s every chance that something could go wrong.
