Product Review: Archeer A320 Home Speaker with Bamboo Baffle and Awesome Audio

archeer a320 home speaker with bamboo baffle

There are plenty of home speakers out there on the market, but very few stand out in terms of design and performance like the product we’re about to review today. Manufactured by home and outdoor electronics product maker Archeer, the A320 is their flagship home speaker with a unique bamboo-made front baffle that looks gorgeous when you first set eyes on it.

The speaker not only looks unique, but the moment you pick it up out of the box, it’s got a nice hefty feel to it. At 1.4 kilograms (about 3 lbs.), this is a solid piece of audio equipment. And don’t let the specs fool you: the A320’s 15w sub-woofer delivers some bombastic bass, enhanced by Massive BASS technology.

The highs are delivered is a surprisingly clear manner considering that the tweeters are only 5w each, placed on either side of the subwoofer speaker. It’s also got a fairly decent frequency response range of between 80Hz and 20KHz. Of course, don’t expect to get extremely deep bass on this unit, since it’s not exactly high-end audio equipment. On the plus side, it’s not that expensive, either.

Personally, I think that’s a fair trade-off, considering how good the bass actually is on this thing.

Connectivity is via Bluetooth or an Aux cable with a 3.5mm pin. The device supports Bluetooth 4.0, so it should work with most audio sources available today, including your smartphone, tablet or other streaming devices. Basically, any source device that supports Bluetooth 4.0 should ideally work with the Archeer A320, although I only tried it on Android and Apple smartphones.

The best part about it is how easy it is to set up. It didn’t take me more than a minute to get the device connected via Bluetooth to my Moto X Play, and start streaming my favorite music.

All you need to do is to take it out of the box, pair it with ‘A320’ on your source device and you’re ready to go. It’s as simple as that.

What I found particularly impressive was the throw of the speakers. Despite having modest specs, as I mentioned, these home speakers can easily cover a large living room or a small outdoor space like a private garden.

Worried about battery life? No problem. The Archeer A320 has an impressive 11 hours of play time at half volume, which is loud enough for a large-ish room. And it only takes about 4-5 hours for a full recharge.

Recharging is via USB, which is included in the box, or you can plug it into an adapter for wall charging. The unit also comes with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable for direct aux input.

Controls and Usage

The controls are very easy to use. There’s a power button, a play/pause button and two volume buttons up top. The power button also doubles up to switch between aux input and Bluetooth input. Long-press the power button to power up or power down the device, and short-press to toggle between input types. If you’re connected to the source device via the aux cable, that’s the preferred connection over Bluetooth.

The volume buttons can also be long-pressed to skip forward or skip backward to the next/previous track on your playlist.

There’s also an LED indicator right between the volume and the play/pause buttons that shows you what mode the A320 is on. When you first power up the device, it should show you a blinking green light. Once connected via Bluetooth or aux, it should be a blinking blue light.

When the battery goes down, you’ll notice a lower volume output, and that’s when you need to plug it in for charging. You can continue to use the device while it’s charging.

One of the aspects I really like about the Archeer A320 is how well it blends with my interior decor. The bamboo baffle on the front gives it an elegant look that will look natural in almost any setting.

Another great feature is how easily it detects and connects to your device when you turn your device’s bluetooth on. If you’re using more than one device to connect to the speaker (not simultaneously, of course), just make sure that the one you want to connect has Bluetooth on and the other one’s Bluetooth radio is switched off.
