Elon Musk Gets First Model 3 Production Car for 46th Birthday

Model 3

Elon Musk is now the official owner of the very first Model 3 production car. The rights to the car belonged to Tesla Motors board member Ira Ehrenpreis but were gifted to Musk for his 46th birthday.

Musk is also the owner of the first Tesla Roadster as well as the first Model X production pieces, but not the first Model S.

Later this month, the first 30 Model 3 customers will get their keys at a swank handover party. The event is scheduled for July 28 and will signal the rollout of Model 3 to more and more customers over the coming months.

August is expected to see 100 shipments of Model 3; September will ramp up to 1,500 and monthly production should touch 20,000 Model 3s by December 2017.

No news is currently available on when Model 3 pre-orders will actually be available for pick-up by customers, but we assume that’s in the works. Obviously, this is going to be on a first-come-first-served basis, since there are in excess of 370,000 confirmed orders, possibly a lot more. It’s likely many of these customers will have to wait until late 2018 or early 2019 to get their hands on their very own Model 3.
