OnePlus 3 and 3T Will Not Go Beyond Android O, Says Head of Product

OnePlus confirms that OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T will get Android O as their last major update. The news comes from Oliver Z, Head of Product, through a recent blog post on the OnePlus forum. He also put into words the need for multiple updates to the OnePlus 5 in recent weeks, and highlights the importance of the Open Beta Program.

The forum had a number of questions which owners have posted regarding support for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, which was addressed by the company.

Oliver does confirm that OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will not have any further updates after Android O, but the devices will continue to get security patches for the “foreseeable future”. He further confirms that once the updates for the OnePlus 3 and 3T are completed, the open beta program will move to OnePlus 5.

The news that the OnePlus 3 and 3T will not see any major update after the release of Android O has left many dissatisfied that they may not get a chance to see Android P on their devices. Also, the interval at which the devices have received updates has been much longer than expected.

Other updates on the earlier version – OxygenOS 4.5.7 included new updates like the new font and 4K stabilization recordings, and other issues were patched. Unfortunately, the new updates caused several other issues for gamers and users, who starting raising their concerns through forums. The company decided to pull out version 4.5.7 and update with patches on 4.5.8.

A new feature “parallel apps” is introduced with the Beta Program, which allows users to sign into two social media accounts simultaneously. Other updates include file manager, battery optimization and gallery.

The message that was sent out indicates that the Open Beta Program will be released to OnePlus 5 owners with the new features and patches. This is a lot better for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T owners, as new software updates that are part of OnePlus 5 will make their way through the Open Beta Program.
