Samsung has come up with a new portable SSD that is pocket-sized, yet packs some really powerful performance. The device is available globally.
Needless to say, Samsung is known for releasing products with some of the best features on the market. The company is generally known for its NAND Flash products, but the new portable SSD proves that the company does have competency in solid state drives.
The SSD T5 is made with Samsung’s latest 64-layer V-Nand technology to deliver high speed and up to 2TB of storage space. The SSD T5 is durable and safe – made with the shock-resistant internal frame, and it can survive a drop of up to 2 meters on a hard surface. On the safety front, it boasts AES 256-bit encryption to protect the data on board. In comparison with equivalent external hardware, Samsung’s SSD T5 proves to be a worthy opponent.
It measures 74 x 57.3 x 10.5mm and the weight varies by capacity. The device is small and easily portable – as big as a business card, weighing 51 grams. The device is compatible with PCs, Mac, Smartphones and other devices with USB Type-C to A and USB Type-C to C cables, whereas the T3, last year’s version, supported only Type-C to A.
The SSD T5 comes in two distinct aluminium finishes; metallic blue with 250GB and 500GB models, and black for the 1TB and 2TB versions. The black model cost $400 for 1 TB and $800 for 2TB. Similarly, the blue option with 250GB costs $130, while the 500GB model costs $200.

The big advantage of SSDs – solid-state drives – is that they have no moving parts, and are designed to be much faster. HDDs – hard disk drives – use a mechanical arm to move around to capture information from the right location on a storage platter.
