Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2, the bezel-less smartphone, is speculated to be unboxed on September 12. Interestingly, Apple also plans to unveil its bezel-less iPhone 8 on the same day.

It remains a rumor for now, as nothing has been confirmed by the company yet. An earlier report said that Xiaomi would launch Mi Mix 2 in the second half of the year. If this second rumor is indeed true and the Mi Mix 2 is expected to launch on September 12,  further speculation suggests that the Chinese smartphone maker definitely has something big in store, something strong enough to compete with Apple’s flagship device; else, it would be no less than a Goliath-sized challenge to steal the spotlight from Apple’s iPhone 8, its 10th anniversary iPhone.

At this point, information on the Mi Mix 2 is limited. From unofficial images of the Mi Mix 2, the device will feature a bezel-less display, like its predecessor but going even further. It is expected to come with 6GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 835 processor and a 4,500mAh battery. On the camera front, the rumor is that it will have a dual camera set up. The device is also expected to come with 3D facial recognition and will sport a 6.4-inch IPS LCD display, and it looks curvy on the edges. The phone is already through with its 3C certification in China, indicating that the launch could, in fact, be right around the corner.

The Mi Mix 2 is expected to come with the price tag of CNY 4,999, which is a little more than $750 at the current exchange rate.

Apple’s 10th-anniversary iPhone has created a lot of hype with its high-end technologies. Apple has a strong customer base, and fans wait for the new release each year to upgrade their phone. While we agree that Xiaomi is one of the well-known brands in the market, it’s not going to be easy competing with the Cupertino-based giant.

Given that Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the official launch date, this remains the speculation for now. It should be interesting to see how the Chinese company’s flagship is able to gain market share – especially in China – against a giant like Apple.
