Netflix Distances Itself from Kevin Spacey, Severs Ties after Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Kevin Spacey House of Cards

“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate out path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”

That statement was released by Netflix after allegations of sexual misconduct against the Hollywood star threw a cloud of gloom over the hit series. Subsequently, Media Rights Capital issued a statement of its own:

“While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behavior on the set of House of Cards, he has been suspended, effective immediately. MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.”

Earlier this week, actor Anthony Rapp alleged that Kevin Spacey had made an unwanted sexual advance at him when the former was 14 years old. Rapp, now a regular on Star Trek: Discovery, reportedly met with executives from Netflix and MRC, who according to a joint statement, were sent “to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported.”

Kevin Spacey is yet to comment on the new development, but he was last reported saying that the incident, which he claims to be unable to recall, was “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”
