Airline Ticket Bookings to Las Vegas Drop 10% in the Month after Mass Shooting

According to recent airline data, travel bookings to Las Vegas have declined after the October mass shooting at a country-music festival, since dubbed the Mandalay Bay attack.

Las Vegas is grappling with the economic fallout over the shootings, which saw 58 people killed and more than 500 injured.

The Casino industry, however, does not expect a long-term impact on their operators.

Airlines Reporting Corp. found that ticket sales in the four-week period after the October 1 shooting declined 4.5 percent from the year before.

The four-week period prior to the shooting showed a 10 percent increase over the previous year.

The near-term reaction of potential visitors to the nation’s gambling capital appears to be negative, according to Olivier Jager, CEO of ForwardKeys.

He also believes that there will not be a long-term effect, but admits he doesn’t know when things will resume normalcy.
