The Story:
Per Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the tax reform bill could end up as a compromise that both the House and Senate agree on, and expects the bill to be signed into law by President Trump before 2017 is out.
Why It Matters:
-
Republicans control 52 Senate seats and 239 House of Representatives seats against the Democrats’ 48 and 194, respectively.
-
The GOP is growing increasingly frustrated that their majorities in the House and Senate have yielded little in the form of legislative wins.
-
The Trump administration and the party are still smarting from the unsuccessful repeal attempts against Obamacare.
-
The GOP could also come under pressure to raise funding unless they push the tax plan through, according to major Republican fundraiser Larry Kawa, as told to Bloomberg.
-
In a FOX Business exclusive interview on The Intelligence Report, Mnuchin alluded to minor variations in the bill, but also said that they were “pleased with the progress” and expect to get a compromise proposal to Trump’s desk in December.
