Tax bill moves to Senate, will Republican sentiment prevail?

The Snippet:

The Donald Trump administration had a huge morale-boosting win on Thursday as the House of Representatives passed the tax bill that aims to cut the corporate tax rate to the lowest level we have(n’t) seen in decades.

The Story:

The Republicans have gone without any major legislative win this year despite having control of the Presidency, the Senate, as well as the House.

The tax bill still has a long way to go before it can find a place on Trump’s desk. The Senate will now have to go through deliberations of its own before passing the bill, and then both the House and the Senate will have to work to iron out their differences before Trump can sign off on the bill.

The 227-205 vote in favor of the bill was a huge victory for speaker Paul Ryan as only 13 Republicans voted against it, clearly showing that the party’s rank and file are ready to support the bill.

What Now?

The passage of the bill is not a certainty in the Senate, where Republicans hold 52 seats. If they lose two more votes then the bill is likely doomed.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R. Wisconsin) has already voiced his opposition to the bill, no one really knows the direction Kentucky Senator Rand Paul will take and, as you can see, the Republicans are already on thin ice.

But if there is one thing that unites the Republican party, it’s tax reform. And Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will be hoping that the sentiment works in his favor.
