Trump visit “actually led to an improvement in our bilateral relations”, says chairwoman of Democratic Party of South Korea

The chairwoman of South Korea’s liberal Democratic Party of South Korea, Choo Mi-ae, said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Asia earlier this month has improved bilateral relations between the two countries.

South Korea was understandably disturbed by president Trump’s threats of military action against North Korea, considering their proximity. But Ms. Choo has now said that his visit has given him a better perspective on the need to resolve the issue by more peaceful means.

Nearly half of South Korea’s population lives near the demilitarized zone that divided Korea at the end of the Korean war in 1953. Ms. Moon said that president Trump has now seen for himself the development of the South since the war, and that “If there were to be a war, not only would all the lives be lost, but the achievements of Korea would become nothing overnight.”
