White House willing to sacrifice Obamacare individual mandate repeal if tax reform bill can pass

Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney indicated in a televised interview on Sunday that the White House is willing to remove a provision that would repeal the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, if it becomes a hurdle to the bill passing.

Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Mulvaney said:

“If we can repeal part of Obamacare as part of a tax bill and have a tax bill that is still a good tax bill — that can pass — that’s great. If it becomes an impediment to getting the best tax bill we can, then we are okay with taking it out.”

Mulvaney also said that it would ultimately rest on negotiators in the House and Senate to decide on the matter.
