Mueller “draining the swamp” in Trump’s stead?

Robert S. Mueller III was appointed special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential Election, and the Trump campaign’s possible connection to it.

It now appears that he will eventually “drain the swamp,” a promise originally made by Trump himself when campaigning for the presidency.

What’s happened since Mueller appeared on the scene?

  • K Street has been put on panic mode

  • Podesta Group, once the embodiment of political influence, is closing shop

  • More disclosures of foreign connections and registration amendments have been made by people and firms since Mueller’s appointment than in any single year in the last two decades

  • Companies are now a lot more likely to be compliant with FARA regulations when it comes to public disclosures about relationships overseas

  • The Justice Department has forced the company operating Russia Today, now known as RT, to register under FARA

  • The charges have now spread beyond connecting the dots between the Trump campaign and Russian interference, as in the case of Manafort and Gates

Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) asked U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions at a House Judiciary Committee if he would agree to work with the committee “to correct these very serious problems, so we can update our disclosure laws, so that the American people can see what’s going on behind the veil?”

Sessions replied: “I would.”

But in the end, everything that’s happening around recent disclosures and K Street’s wary steps in regards to overseas connections all points back to Mueller. Trump might be doing nothing to “drain the swamp,” but we can rest assured that somebody actually is.
