Amazon Sumerian: Anyone can create VR, AR, and 3D experiences, says Amazon

Amazon has launched a new product called Amazon Sumerian that allows practically anyone with or without programming knowledge to create AR, VR and 3D experiences for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and iOS mobile devices (support for Android ARCore coming soon, Amazon says.)

Amazon gives an example of how the tool can be deployed for creating virtual classrooms for employee training.

The use cases are extremely broad, since you don’t need 3D graphics expertise or developer qualifications to create AR, VR and 3D scenes.

The application lets you create these scenes right from the browser, but you’ll need an AWS account to sign up for the service, and choose which AR/VR device you’re going to deploy the scenes in.

These are the devices it currently supports:

  • Oculus Rift

  • HTC Vive

  • Samsung GearVR

  • Google Daydream

  • Google Cardboard

  • ARKit

  • ARCore

  • Microsoft HoloLens

  • Meta 2

Amazon Sumerian is currently available in Preview, and users can sign up here with their details and their AWS Account ID.
