Late actress Carrie Fisher could push The Last Jedi takings to $200M on opening weekend

Senior box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, Jeff Bock, has predicted that Star Wars: The Last Jedi could potentially rake in as much as $215 million to $220 million on its opening weekend.

The movie releases on December 15, 2017, and Bock believes that sentiment for Carrie Fisher, who died last December, will bump the movie’s first weekend takings to over $200 million.

After The Force Awakens, which made $155 million on its first weekend and $248 million for the opening month, Rogue One was the second new Star Wars franchise film that crossed the coveted $100 million mark.

The Last Jedi is very likely to be the third, but could set the record books on fire if it exceeds $200 million over the first three-day period after release.
