Mueller charges Flynn with lying to fed investigators, Kislyak denies talking to Flynn about Russia sanctions

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn has officially been charged by special counsel Robert Mueller for lying to the FBI about his conversations with Sergei Kislyak, former Russian ambassador to the United States.

According to the charge, Michael Flynn “falsely stated” that he did not ask Kislyak “to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the United States had imposed against Russia that same day.”

This allegedly happened on December 29, 2016, the day the Obama administration announced a retaliation against Russia meddling with the election.

In a separate interview, Kislyak has denied that any conversation took place between him and Flynn regarding the sanctions against Russia, but also stated that the only body he would answer to was the Russian parliament.

The case has been assigned to Judge Rudolph “Rudy” Contreras, federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Robert S. Mueller III has been on a hunt against anyone involved in the alleged interference by Russian actors in the 2016 Presidential Election, and several notable personalities are now in his sights.

Flynn’s plea hearing has been scheduled for 10:30 today, Friday, December 1, almost a year after the incident regarding which he is being charged occurred.
