Samsung’s W2018 premium flip smartphone has this amazing camera spec

Samsung has unveiled its W2018 flip smartphone, a premium device that sports many of the same features as the S8 and Note 8, but with a major camera upgrade.

Originally reported by GizmoChina, the W2018 is next year’s iteration of the W line of premium smartphones from Samsung.

Of note is the fact that the W2018 comes with a camera that has one of the largest apertures so far for a smartphone camera: f/1.5. That’s even better than the f/1.6 on the LG V30 from this year.

The lower the f-ratio or f-number, the better the camera can handle low-light photography. Samsung has long touted its strengths in this area, and the new W line smartphone for next year is obviously a culmination of years of effort and expertise.

Other features include a 4.2-inch full AMOLED display, 12MP and 5MP camera sensors on the rear and front, respectively, Snapdragon 835 processor supported by 6GB of RAM, and 64GB/256GB internal memory options. The device will come with Android Nougat, but will likely eventually be upgradable to Android Oreo.

The Verge expects the W2018 to be priced even higher than last year’s W2017, which sold for $3,000. That’s a lot of money just to take nice night shots, but Samsung is sweetening the deal this year with free tech support, perks at airports and subways, and even a hotline for VIPs.

The W2018 will first be made available in China. No information is available on a U.S. release or price.
