Swarm AI Predicts TIME “Person of the Year” awards, only TIME will tell!

Swarm artificial intelligence, or Swarm AI, is a collaborative and humanized approach to artificial intelligence.

Instead of relying purely on traditional AI algorithms and big data processing, Swarm AI uses real-time opinions and choices of human participants to finally arrive at a consensus decision. In a sense, it “amplifies” human intelligence and enables us to use this collective and dynamic intelligence to reach conclusions on everything from straightforward decisions to emotionally complex matters.

Swarm AI from UNU, a platform created by Dr. Louis B. Rosenberg’s Unanimous AI, has predicted several outcomes in key events such as the Academy Awards, the Kentucky Derby, many sporting events and even the 2016 Presidential Election.

The UNU platform is now being used to predict the coveted TIME “Person of the Year” award that will be released in the next two days.

The predictions from participants in this particular “swarm” initially looked like this:

After that initial prediction, however, things changed in a big way.

Time Warner was acquired by Meredith Corp. in a deal also backed by the billionaire Koch brothers, and media coverage on Putin put a twist on the Russia story. The #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment garnered tremendous support and popularity, and North Korea once again came to the forefront as the prospect of a nuclear war looms large. Robert Mueller was also featured more often in the media as investigations into Russia meddling in the 2016 Presidential Election progressed.

To account for these uncertainties, UNU was then asked how it might bet on the top five options of the total pool of 33 possible names using Vegas betting odds and a hypothetical gambling pool of $100. This is what came out:

As you can see, the rankings have changed significantly since the first swarm was run.

UPDATE AS OF DEC. 4: Unanimous AI has published its FINAL PREDICTION to accurately reflect the most recent data in this rapidly changing race. While Putin was in the lead a few weeks ago and the #MeToo campaign in third place, Putin has now completely dropped off the list.

The new prediction for TIME’s Person of the Year award for 2017 is the #MeToo Campaign for sexual harassment and assault.

—end of update—

As TIME prepares its own announcement for tomorrow, will the TIME Person of the Year award go to a now globally recognized campaign against sexual harassment in the professional space? Will it go to arguably the most controversial president that America has had in recent times, or the man who is trying to find evidence that connects that President’s campaign with Russian interference in the election? Or could it go to the Russian or North Korean heads of state who have made the headlines more than once in the past few months?

In two days, on December 6, TIME will announce the Person of the Year award. Swarm AI has performed exceedingly well in other scenarios such as sports and entertainment. Can it accurately predict the outcome of voters and the final decision of the organizers for this prestigious token of recognition?

Only TIME will tell!
