$70 million in Bitcoin stolen by hackers, cryptominer NiceHash forced to halt operations

As Bitcoin blazes past $15,000 and achieves a market capitalization greater than that of Visa, Inc., news has just broken that a cryptocurrency mining service called NiceHash has had $70 million in Bitcoin stolen by hackers.

NiceHash has been forced to shut operations for 24 hours as it investigates the security breach and subsequent theft of part of its cryptocurrency holding.

Approximately 4,700 Bitcoin was stolen from a Bitcoin wallet, an online app that stores the crypto.

Andrej P. Škraba, head of marketing at NiceHash, who confirmed the incident to the Wall Street Journal, said:

“Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern, and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. It was a professional attack.”
