Though Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel drew strong rebukes from global leaders, there was one constituency that was all for the move – Evangelicals.
Evangelicals still strongly believe that the land was given to the Jews by God, and that it is Israel’s right to have Jerusalem as its capital. It evokes strong Judaic sentiment to them.
Look at what Historian Diane Bass tweeted:
Of all the possible theological dog-whistles to his evangelical base, this is the biggest. Trump is reminding them that he is carrying out God’s will to these Last Days.

The Republican Jewish Coalition even took out a full page ad to thank Trump
The reason behind Donald John Trump’s recent move that left a lot of people inside and outside the United States bewildered is now becoming clear.
He is consolidating his strong support from evangelicals. He has delivered on nearly all of their requirements:
-
Appoint a Social Conservative to the Supreme Court: Check (Neil Gorsuch)
-
Appoint a Conservative Christian as Education Secretary: Check (Betsy DeVos)
-
Recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital: Check
And we are sure that the list is just going to get longer and longer.
Democrats, if you keep believing that Trump will undo himself before we can get to 2020, you are going to be horribly wrong. The President already seems to be in election mode, and he is consolidating his base even further.
