Android P public beta now available for select devices

Android is the most popular mobile operating system. Google has been working on improving its operating system for years to take on Apple iOS. Android has been through a number of major updates since the launch day, with a lot of changes and features. Last year, Google officially announced Android Oreo following months of beta testing.

Android Oreo brings a number of changes to the operating system, including notification grouping, picture-in-picture mode, support for Bluetooth 5, and battery optimization. The Oreo software update was widely welcomed by users and tech experts worldwide. However, it still has errors and bugs that are expected to be fixed in future updates.

At this year’s Google I/O event, the biggest search engine on Earth officially released a public beta of Android P. In reality, Google has been testing out Android P for months and is now ready for public launch.

According to Google, the public beta of Android P will support a limited number of devices on the market. Pixel phone owners can get the update through OTA update. However, keep in mind that Android P is still in beta stages, so it may include bugs and errors. Google has a lot of work to do ahead of the final release this fall.

The list of supported devices includes Oppo’s R15 Pro, Pixel and Pixel 2, OnePlus 6, Nokia’s 7 Plus, Sony’s Xperia XZ2, and the Essential Phone. Experts say that Android P will hit more devices this year when the final build launches. Google has not specified when Android P hits users. However, reports say that it will make its debut in September, at the same time as iOS 12.

Android P includes a lot of features and changes. One of the biggest changes lies in gesture navigation. You now can easily access your recent apps by swiping up on the home screen. Do Not Disturb also gets an improvement, not only muting the phone call and notifications, but also visual interruptions.

Notifications section also gets an improvement, allowing you to block a particular type of notifications. This comes in handy for those who frequently receive notifications from apps they no longer use.
