watchOS 5 will not support the original Apple Watch

Apple officially kicked off its annual WWDC event in San Jose, California. On the day 1 of the event, the Cupertino company announced new software updates to iOS, macOS, and watchOS following months of endless rumors and speculation.

watchOS 5 is one of the biggest announcements at this year’s event. Apple’s new wearable operating system comes with a lot of new things, including smarter fitness features, new watch faces, better notifications, and walkie-Talkie.

watchOS 5 is widely welcome by users and tech experts worldwide. However, watchOS 5 won’t support all devices at launch this year. According to Apple, watchOS 5 will drop support for the original Apple Watch. This won’t come as a surprise as the first generation Apple Watch comes with older hardware.

Tech experts say that Apple’s move aims to make sure that everything runs smoothly at launch. watchOS 5 includes some features that put a lot of pressure on Apple Watch Series 0. Apple confirms that all the other Apple Watch models will receive watchOS 5 update this year. It remains unknown when the update will arrive this year. But, Apple has its long-time tradition of launching the final build of the software update in September.

The original Apple Watch was introduced back in 2015 and received mostly positive reviews from users and tech experts. Apple Watch was one of the best-selling wearable devices in 2015. During the holiday shopping season in 2016, Apple Watch was the hottest items with millions of units sold.

Back in September 2017, Apple officially unveiled the third generation Apple Watch, including the standard version and LTE-enabled model. According to rumors, Apple Watch with LTE connectivity now dominates the smartwatch market. The launch of Apple Watch 3 may boost the adoption of LTE connectivity among big smartphone brands on the market.

At this year’s WWDC event, Apple also announced macOS Mojave and iOS 12. iOS 12 took the center stage at the event this year, as it introduces a lot of new things and changes, including group FaceTime calling, notification grouping feature, better ARKit, and better Photos app. iOS 12 is now available as a beta version and will launch to the public in September.
