The Cupertino company is facing a lot of competition on the market. The Chinese firms are now selling millions of smartwatch units out there for very affordable prices. According to reports, Apple Watch was the best-selling smartwatch in the first three months of the year.
Reports claim that Apple grabbed 16.1% of the smartwatch market share in the first quarter of the year, while Xiaomi finished second, with of 14.8% of the worldwide smartwatch market. According to data, the Chinese smartwatch firm, Xiaomi saw a 9.2% decline in smartwatch shipments in the period that ended in March 2018.
Last year, Xiaomi’s smartwatch shipments reached 24.8% in the first three months of the year. Reports say that Apple smartwatch shipments saw a 13.5% increase, mainly thanks to a strong sales of Apple Watch Series 3. Specifically, the Cupertino company shipped 4 million smartwatch units in Q1/2018, a big rise when compared to 3.6 million units recorded in Q1/2017.
The Chinese firm, Xiaomi shipped 3.7 million smartwatch units in the first three months of the year, a slight increase when compared to 3.6 million units last year. Tech experts say that Apple will continue to dominate the market in the second quarter of the year. Apple is expected to launch the fourth generation Apple Watch in September, which would help Apple boost sales during this year’s shopping holiday season.
Fitbit ranked the third in Q1/2018, with 8.7% of the wearables market due to a drop in smartwatch shipments. Fitbit’s new Versa smartwatch hit 1 million units sold during its six weeks of availability.
