LG Display to provide OLED display panels for this year’s iPhone X Plus

Apple iPhone is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated flagship phones on the market. Last year, the Cupertino company debuted three iPhone models, including iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. The two standard iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are not a huge upgrade over their previous models. iPhone X, on the other hands, marks the biggest design change Apple has ever made.

Apple is expected to launch new iPhone models at its annual September event. In reality, we have heard a lot of rumors circulating about Apple’s new iPhone models for months. Most rumors claim that Apple will continue to unveil three new iPhones this year, including iPhone X Plus.

Sources say that the upcoming iPhone X Plus will be the successor to the last year’s iPhone X. This would mean that the device will have a lot of premium features and top-tier hardware components. Rumors claim that the iPhone X Plus will retain what we have loved about the current iPhone X, ranging from Face ID to a glass-back design.

According to the latest sources, LG Display will be supplying OLED displays for this year’s iPhone X Plus. This comes as a surprise as Samsung is believed to be providing Apple with flexible display panels.

Last year, Samsung secured a $4 billion with Apple to supply hundreds of millions of OLED display units. In reality, Apple has been seeking more suppliers for its iPhone components in recent years to meet the huge demand for iPhone models. Back in 2017, Apple pushed back the release date of iPhone X due to its supply issues.

In reality, LG Display has been providing Apple with OLED displays for Apple Watch. The South Korean firm is hoping to secure a deal to provide OLED panels used for the entire iPhone lineup. However, LG Display is facing a lot of supply issues.

Tech experts say that LG Display will share the production volume with Samsung. However, LG will be providing only 4 million OLED panels for this year 2018 iPhone X Plus. Samsung will be supplying Apple with between 10 and 15 million units.
