Apple is doing pretty well in the business. The company is selling millions of iPhone units every quarter. In the first three months of 2018, Apple shipped more than 16 million iPhone X units, helping the company grab the number one position on the market.
Apple is shifting its focus to emerging markets. The iPhone SE was among the hottest items in India and China last year. The SE received more than 3 million registrations in China one week prior to the official launch. In reality, Apple is currently selling older iPhone models in emerging markets.
Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone SE are currently manufactured in India, which aims to cut down the transport costs and import taxes. This allows Apple to lower the price of its iPhone models. The Cupertino company is also planning to open up more manufacturing facilities in India to boost the production.
However, it seems that Apple is having a hard time selling smartphones in India. According to the latest reports, the Cupertino company sold less than one million iPhone units in the first six months of the year.
Tech experts say that Apple is struggling to compete directly with Chinese smartphone markers in China and India. Xiaomi now dominates the Indian smartphone market, with millions of units sold every quarter. Huawei also has its own ground on the market. The Chinese firm is now the world’s third-largest smartphone firm.
Last year, Apple sold 3.2 million iPhone units in India, however, things have changed. Apple is falling behind other rivals in India. Apple needs something to rectify the situation. Sources say that Apple will launch an affordable iPhone model in September this year. The device will sport a 6.1-inch display, but it will stick with LCD panel to cut down the production cost.
Sources say that the 6.1 inch iPhone model will target the Indian market at launch. The device will be priced between $399 and $499 this year. The phone still has a number of premium features like wireless charging, Face ID, and a dual camera setup. The device will come in new color options at launch.
