What will Apple call this year’s iPhone models?

Apple is expected to launch new iPhone models at this year’s September event. This means that you are now so close to the unveiling event. There are a lot of things we are expecting to see at this year’s event. Tech experts say that 2018 September event is not just about new iPhone models as Apple may unveil a new MacBook or a new Apple Watch.

Sources claim that Apple will debut new iPhone models on September 12. However, it remains unknown what Apple will this year’s iPhone models. According to reports, the Cupertino firm will announce three new iPhone models, including a new iPhone X, a new iPhone X Plus, and a 6.1 inch iPhone model.

However, rumors are just rumors. Apple is expected to announce two premium phones this year, including a 5.8-inch iPhone model and a bigger 6.5-inch iPhone model. Both devices will feature OLED display panels. The 6.1 inch iPhone model, on the other hand, will come with an LCD panel. According to sources, the 6.1-inch device will belong to the mid-range smartphone segment.

OLED display panels are more expensive and harder to produce. Last year, Apple was struggling to manufacture OLED display panels for its iPhone models, which forced the company to push the release date of the iPhone X until November. Samsung is now Apple’s sole supplier of OLED panels, with hundreds of millions of units shipped every year.

Last month, sources claimed that LG Display will be joining Apple’s supply chain. However, the South Korean firm will be responsible for producing LCD displays for the next iPhone models. Reports claim that Apple will put a huge focus on iPhone models with LCD panels. Apple might launch more iPhone models in emerging markets in the future.

According to the latest sources, this year’s iPhone models will be called iPhone XS, iPhone XS Plus, and iPhone 8s. If this is the case, Apple will revert to its “S” series. Last year, Apple skipped its traditional S lineup of iPhone models and went straight to the iPhone X.

However, some sources claim that one of this year’s iPhone models will be called iPhone 9. In reality, Apple was previously rumored to announce the iPhone 9 last year, but Apple removed it. Instead, it debuted the iPhone X to celebrate the 10th birthday of its iPhone models.

Tech experts claim that Apple will go back to its iPhone 9 this year. The upcoming iPhone 9 will succeed the current iPhone 8 on the market, while the iPhone XS will replace the iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone X Plus will come with never-seen-before features, one of which includes an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Apple has been working on an in-display fingerprint scanner for years. Last year, the company gave up on the plan to integrate a scanner into the display. The current iPhone X uses Apple’s new security measure called Face ID. As the name suggests, Face ID allows you to unlock your phone with a simple glance. Apple is expected to improve Face ID on this year’s iPhone models.
