Tesla has started to sell Model 3 in the tens of thousands and the rising sales numbers are starting to take effect in the form of millions of dollars in monthly revenue for Tesla. According to ARK Invest, Tesla Model 3 is already the highest grosser in the United States.
As you can see from the chart above, Tesla Model 3 raked in between $750 to $800 million in revenues in July. Tesla sold an estimated 14,250 Model 3s in July. If we use an average selling price of $54,000, Tesla must have brought in a cool $769 million for the month.
Second-placed Toyota sold 26,311 Camry units in July, followed by Honda Accord at 24,927 units.
Now we can start using the term ‘Highest Grosser’ instead of ‘Best Seller’ for Model 3.
Conclusion: The reason this is significant is because the Model 3 is clearly competing against cheaper ICE cars. While the Model 3 still starts at $49,000 for the rear-wheel drive, the 2018 Camry starts at $23,645 and the Accord starts at an almost identical $23,570. So even though the Model 3 hasn’t yet caught up in terms of numbers (14k for Model 3 against 26k for Camry and 25k for Accord), it has already beaten the competition on the revenue front. It’s only a matter of time before the Model 3 climbs the sales unit ladder as well.
Here’s How That Will Happen: Tesla Model 3 May Hit #5 or #6 in Top-selling Cars in the U.S. in August 2018
