TSMC to fabricate Apple’s A chips for future iPhone models, Say Reports

2017 marked the 10th birthday of Apple iPhone models. Apple iPhone has changed so much since the day one, with a bigger screen, innovative features, and excellent camera performance. Last year, Apple skipped the iPhone 9 and went straight to iPhone X to celebrate the special occasion.

However, Apple was struggling to produce iPhone X with premium components, which forced the company to push the release until November. Apple is expected to equip its future iPhone models with OLED displays. And, the company is looking for more suppliers of components for its iPhone models.

Samsung Display is currently Apple’s sole supplier of OLED displays for iPhone models. Last year, the South Korean firm had a problem manufacturing OLED panels at its facilities. Earlier this year, reports claimed that LG Display will be joining Apple’s supply chain, but the firm will be responsible for producing LCD panels. This means that we are seeing more iPhone models with LCD displays in the future.

LG Display and Apple have been in a long-term partnership, as the South Korean company is now supplying OLED panels for Apple Watch. Tech experts say that Apple has a lot of work to do to meet the huge demand for this year’s iPhones. Apple is speeding up the production of iPhone’s components at its facilities worldwide.

According to the latest reports, TSMC will be the exclusive producer of Apple’s A13 chips for future iPhone models. The move comes shortly after the Taiwanese firm secured orders for Apple’s A12 chips which will be used for this year’s iPhone models. Reports also say that the Taiwanese company will be Apple’s sole supplier of Apple’s iPhone chipsets until 2020.

However, sources claim that Apple has been working on its new chipset for iPhone models in an attempt to reduce the dependence on its partners. However, it remains unknown when Apple’s chips are ready. Tech experts say that Apple prefers to use chips produced by TSMC because they are able to offer something new every year.

Apple previously used iPhone’s chips from Samsung. The South Korean firm fabricated the A9 chips for Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. In 2016, the Cupertino company decided to rely on the Taiwanese company for iPhone’s chips. TSMC is now one of the biggest manufacturers of mobile chips. The company is also manufacturing chips for Qualcomm later this year.

Apple and Qualcomm have been in an intense dispute following the chip maker accusing Apple of contract breach. Apple is planning to ditch Qualcomm as its supplier of baseband chips. Sources say that the Cupertino company will use Intel’s chips for its future iPhone models.

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhone models at its September event, including a new iPhone X, an iPhone X Plus, and a 6.1 inch iPhone model. The iPhone X Plus will succeed the current iPhone X on the market. Sources claim that this year’s iPhone models will come with an under-display fingerprint scanner. Apple has been working on a fingerprint scanner that works under the display for years. However, Apple needs more time to make sure things run smoothly.
