How to Fix the iPhone Black Screen Issue

iphone black screen

iPhone is one of the most beautiful electronic devices ever created for consumer use, but it doesn’t always play fair. Despite shelling out hundreds of dollars, you’ll still occasionally get issues that most hardcore iOS users are familiar with, one of them being the iPhone black screen. This article shows you how to deal with this and other issues, as well as how to activate iPhone DFU mode, so you can start using your phone normally again.

Most iOS problems tend to go away after a hard reset. Unless, it’s a deep-seated issue with the OS itself, the fix is simple. All you need to do on iPhone 8 and later devices is follow the steps below:

Step 1: Press the Volume Up button followed by the Volume Down button.

Step 2: Press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo is seen on-screen, and then let the iPhone restart.

On older devices, hole the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down simultaneously until you see the Apple logo, then release both buttons and allow the device to boot up.

These two steps will hard-reset your device, and the iPhone black screen problem should go away. This method also works for other types of iPhone issues like boot loop, stuck on Apple logo, stuck on iTunes logo, can’t get out of iPhone DFU mode and so on. Some of the these issues can occur when upgrading iOS to a higher version.

Another way to try and get rid of the iPhone black screen problem is to do a soft reset, and you can actually try this before doing a hard reset. A soft reset is nothing more than turning your phone off and then on again. Some minor issues get fixed this way but if not, then you can fall back on the hard reset method.

What if the hard reset method doesn’t work?

In that case, you can employ a third-party rescue utility like dr.fone – Repair (iOS System Recovery). It can be used when neither of the other methods works and requires that your device be put into iPhone DFU mode to update the firmware to the latest version to get rid of the problem permanently.

The best part about the software is that it does all the heavy lifting for you. Your only job is to select the right options and click a few buttons, and your device will be restored to working condition in no time. It also needs a data connection since the new firmware needs to be downloaded and installed on your iPhone.

How to Use dr.fone – Repair (iOS System Recovery)

The dr. fone application for iOS repair and recovery is part of a suite of desktop tools designed for iOS devices. Their functionality spans recovery, repair, erasing, switching, rooting, data transfers, unlocking and backup & restore. Step 1: Launch the program and select the Repair module from the main page. You’ll see the other modules there, but ignore them for now.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone to the computer and select the Standard Mode. This will help retain your data, and the Advanced Mode should only be used if you have a backup or if Standard Mode doesn’t fix the iPhone black screen issue.

Step 3: In the next page, your device details will be listed, Click on Start.

Step 4: At this point, the new firmware will be downloaded from Apple’s servers and verified by the dr. fone software. Once verified, you’ll see an option to Fix Now. Click on it to resolve the issue.

Step 5: If Standard Mode doesn’t take care of the problem, repeat the above steps but select Advanced Mode in Step 2 and continue with the rest of the process.

Note: In case your device is not detected by the software, the root cause of your iPhone black screen could go deeper, which means you will need to put your iPhone in DFU mode before using the software to repair the device. The steps for this are shown below:

Step 1: Turn off your device, connect it to the computer and launch the program. Now go to iPhone DFU mode. Here’s how to do it on iPhone 8 or later:

Quickly press and release the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons in sequence. Now hold the Side button till you see your iPhone screen go black, then keep holding it while pressing the Volume Down button for five more seconds. Release only the Side button and hold down the Volume Down button. If the screen remains blank, you are in iPhone DFU mode.

Step 2: Once your iPhone is in DFU mode, click on the Standard or Advanced Mode option and continue to follow the steps to the end.

As you can see, apart from a soft or hard reset, there is a much easier way to resolve iPhone black screen and other issues. The iPhone DFU mode allows the firmware to be updated and the problem to be fixed for good.
