A Silly Little Piano App for MacBook Pro Touch Bar Users. Really, MacRumors??

An app that violates Apple’s developer guidelines, is completely impractical and is pretty much just a gimmick. That’s the new Graham Parks app designed for the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro.

The tiny little keyboard on the Touch Bar looks like it was designed for a two-year-old – one with skinny fingers, judging from photos of the display.

The keys look like they belong on a keyboard, but with the Touch Bar itself being a narrow strip at the top of the MacBook Pro’s keyboard, it ends up looking more like somebody with a few missing upper teeth is giving his widest smile possible.

I wouldn’t play those if they were the last set of ivories on the planet!

But humor apart, it makes you question the purpose of such an app. It could be fun if it weren’t for the fact that you’d keep hitting two notes every time you try to strike a key with your finger.

What really surprised me was that MacRumors reported it. I’ve been reading MacRumors for a long time, and I respect their views, but something tells me it was a no-news day at MacRumors.

Apparently, the app can be used on older MacBook Pro laptops as well, with the Touché app for Mac, but it specifically requires macOS 10.12.1 version 16B2657. If you don’t have that you can click on ‘More Info’ and they’ll show you how to do that.

Personally – and professionally, since I am a musician – I would not recommend this app other than for a few minutes of entertainment. It has no practical value, but it does offer a choice of 128 instrument sounds and is polyphonic. Other than that, it’s as much of a waste of time as the several minutes I spent writing this piece.
