Free Watch Dogs 2 Update 1.16 for Xbox One, PS4, PC Brings 4-Player Party Mode

Xbox One Watch Dogs 2 update 1.16

Along with some paid downloadable content (DLC), gaming company Ubisoft is soon pushing a major free update to its hugely popular Watch Dogs 2 users on Xbox One, PS4 and PC platforms. The 1.16 update was originally planned as a paid DLC, according to source, but will now be absolutely free and will drop on July 4, 2017.

If you’re new to the open world game, Watch Dogs 2 is the (improved) sequel to the controversial hacking game Watch_Dogs. The main protagonist of the game, Marcus Holloway, is wrongly accused and convicted of a crime he did not commit. In the sequel, Holloway and his team attempt to infiltrate and destroy the “Blume” organization. The game is set in San Francisco.

Watch-Dogs was criticized by many as being too dark, so Ubisoft softened it up quite a bit on Watch Dogs 2, adding a more sociable story and arguably a more engaging cast of characters.

Since the sequel was launched last year, Ubisoft has been adding update after update, and no less than 3 sets of paid DLC add-ons.

Version 1.16 is coming in two days, on the fourth of July (July 4, 2017), and brings a 4-player party mode. Remote players can join in the game and participate in hacking challenges in San Francisco. The update works by enabling players to launch either a private or public party where friends can play together.

The current ‘events’ of the game will be part of the update, and include Robot Fights, Showd0wn, Man VS Machine, Loot Trucks, Invasions and Bounties. The new co-op mode will be pushed on the 1.16 update, and also includes several improvements and bug fixes.

Ubisoft is also in the process of developing augmented reality (AR) games for the HoloLens platform from Microsoft.

As for the 1.16 update to Watch Dogs 2, patriotic fans can enjoy a fireworks show with their three friends in party mode until July 10. Xbox One, PS4 and PC should simultaneously get the free update on July 4, 2017.
