US-based Western Digital is known as one of the best and largest computer hard disk drive manufacturers in the world. The company recently launched its 400 GB SanDisk micro SDHC UHS-1 card at the IFA 2017 conference. This is double the capacity of its highest-capacity microSD card released two years ago.
The 400GB SanDisk Ultra micro SDHC UHS-I card is for mobile devices, offering 144GB more storage than other microSD available in the market.
“We continue to push technology boundaries and transform the way consumers use their mobile devices,” said Sven Rathjen, vice president of product marketing at SanDisk’s parent company, Western Digital. “By focusing on achieving new technology milestones, we enable consumers to keep up with their mobile-centric lifestyles with storage solutions they trust.”
The SanDisk microSD card supports the storage of data, photos, videos and much more, without having to worry about storage limitation. The company claims that the 400GB microSD card supports 100Mpbs read speed – it can hold up to 40 hours of full HD videos and delivers premium performance. It has the capability of transferring 1,200 photos per minute. Additionally, with A1 app performance, the card can load apps faster and is extremely durable, claiming to be water, shock, temperature and x-ray proof.
Jeff Janukowicz, research vice president, IDC. “We estimate mobile device users worldwide will install over 150 billion applications alone this year, which requires a ton of memory on all of our favourite devices.”
With the growing market for smartphones bundled with high-end features and technologies, the storage space on mobile devices continues to become more valuable over time. The company believes that external storage devices will continue to grow as people continue to expect more sophisticated features on their smartphones. The new SanDisk microSD card with double the storage space of the previous version comes as a perfect fit to mobile users that are always hungry for more storage.
On the pricing front, the microSD card comes with a fairly hefty price tag, and it is available at SanDisk.com and other major retailers. It also comes with a ten-year limited warranty.
