Thousands Expected at Hollywood #MeToo March Against Sexual Abuse

The Story:

Later this morning in Los Angeles, thousands of people are expected to take to the streets in support of victims of sexual assault and harassment as part of the hashtag #MeToo campaign on social media, which has painted an ugly picture of this aspect of American life.

Important Because:

After the Harvey Weinstein scandal started a massive media wave last month, several other accusers have come forward in various cases against powerful personalities in the entertainment and media community.

Several of these former stalwarts of their respective industries have since been removed from their positions, and it has led to a considerable number of women coming out to share their own experiences with followers of the #MeToo campaign.

This is Happening Today:

The 15 host organizations of the campaign, including the Bernie Sanders Brigade, Defend Movement and AF3IRM National, have scheduled a walk called the Survivors’ March under the hashtags #MeTooMarch and #EndTheStigma.

The walk is today, November 12, between 10 am and 3 pm PST.

Speakers at the event include Tarana Burke, writer and media commentator Jasmyne Cannick, rape survivor and the AF3IRM National Chairperson Ivy Quicho and other notable women who are active voices in the fight against sexual misconduct and abuse of women.

The walk includes a march to CNN’s LA headquarters and a rally in the heart of Hollywood at the intersection Hollywood and Highland.
